Schindlers Attorneys is a medium sized level five BEE compliant commercial practice consisting of seven partners and over forty support staff. History of the firm:

On 1 October 1991, Charlene Cimring and Hilton Schindler purchased the practice as a going concern.

Messrs. Schindler and Cimring continued with and grew the practice, practicing in all spheres of law, including commercial litigation, general litigation, the drafting of simple and complex agreements, liquidations and sequestrations, criminal law and conveyancing.

On 1 May 1992, the practice effected a name change to Schindler and Cimring Attorneys and moved chambers to Braamfontein.

On 1 June 1997, the practice moved from Braamfontein to Rosebank.

Maurice Crespi joined Schindler and Cimring in October 1997 and became a partner of the firm in December 1998. Maurice is an experienced legal practitioner with a sound knowledge of South African commercial, property and corporate law.  He is a highly experienced and established litigation attorney.  He has had extensive experience in general tax consulting, the interpretation of tax laws, international taxation and remuneration consulting, VAT and tax implications of joint ventures, fiduciary/trustee responsibilities, liaison and submission of tax exemption application to SARS and the Reserve Bank, research and advice to public sector organisations, restructuring of operations in section 21 companies and various due diligence investigations and reviews.

On 1 August 2000, the practice moved from the Rosebank Chambers to Hyde Park and effected a name change to Schindlers Attorneys.

On 1 March 2001, David Hepburn became a partner of Schindlers. He previously practiced in Cape Town as an associate with the firm Buchanan Boyes. He specialises in all aspects of commercial law.

On 1 July 2001, Marius van Rensburg joined the firm as a partner. He previously practiced for his own account, primarily as a conveyancer under the name Marius van Rensburg Attorneys. He is an admitted conveyancer. Marius has extensive experience in all aspects of property law, and conveyancing

On 1 August 2001, Schindlers Attorneys again moved to larger premises located at Schindlers House, First Floor, 6 Albury Park, Albury Road, Hyde Park.

On 1 March 2002, Lisa Sher became a partner. Lisa was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2000. She has experience in general litigation, research and advice to public sector organisations, restructuring of operations in section 21 companies and various due diligence investigations and reviews. She also heads up the family law department and specialises in labour law. Lisa is also an admitted conveyancer. 

On 1 March 2005, Andre Pienaar became a Partner. Andre is an experienced Litigation, Commercial and Tax practitioner. He has specialised knowledge and expertise in Commercial Contracts, Property Law, Corporate Restructuring and Rationalizations, Due Diligence Exercises, Exchange Control, Implementation of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Strategies, Insolvency and Corporate Recoveries, International Offerings involving South African corporations, Joint Ventures, Mining Law, Outward and Inward Investments, Private Partnerships, Sale and Lease Backs, Schemes of Arrangement, Establishment of local and offshore companies and trusts, Arbitrations, Reviews, Sale and Purchase of Private Corporations and Businesses. Andre has been involved in several large South African commercial transactions and has in the course and scope provided advice to scores of domestic and international corporates. Andre currently represents two major South African Mining Companies in both commercial and litigious matters. Andre is in addition a Criminal Law practitioner and has been involved in various High Profile Criminal matters.

On 1 March 2006, Sarah Thackwell became partner. Sarah is experienced in commercial law and litigation.  She advises various multinational and local companies on a broad range of commercial matters including general commercial agreements, supply and service agreements, joint ventures and franchising and distribution arrangements. She has practiced in all areas of employment law and has advised on the employment law implications of business transfers.

In addition, she concentrates on High Court litigation and arbitration, with a focus on corporate and commercial disputes.

During 2006, the whole of the firm’s conveyancing department was relocated to  
Unit No. 7, Rivonia Gate, Cnr. 12th Avenue and Rivonia Road.
