City of JHB challenged

The City of Johannesburg has confirmed it has now received a legal challenge from 13 companies that own property, demanding it halt cutting-off power to their buildings.

The document supposedly takes up hundreds of pages of showing examples of the wrong buildings being cut off, accounts not being opened and undelivered bills to owners.

The firms have asked the South Gauteng High Court to stop the cut-offs claiming they are illegal.

The city of Johannesburg says it will have to make its way through the entire submission before it will give a response to the legal action.

The city’s Nthatisi Modingoane says it needs to make sure people do pay-up.
